I have no idea what cause this error.
What I do is
1. uninstall “AMP” sever
2. reinstall lamp server
3. goto localhost/ >> shows page “it works” (it from page index.html)
4. use sudo gedit put index.php(with content phpinfo). go to localhost/index.php>>page downloaded instead of shown.
5. use sudo gedit put phpinfo.php(with content phpinfo). go to localhost/phpinfo.php>>page downloaded instead of shown.
6. sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart
Everything from step4 and 5 works.
7. copy everything w/o hidden files (.htaccess etc.) into /var/www/
8. Click on ‘System’->’Users’->’Manage Groups’->’Add’
Go ahead and enter the new group name ‘web’ and make yourself a member like so
Next, setup ‘web’ as the group for /var/www
sudo chgrp -R web /var/www
sudo chmod -R g+rwx /var/www
Now you can use “copy” and “paste”.
Copy your project (folder with index.php) into /etc/www/
9 localhost >> shows “it works”
locahost/index.php >> shows “HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.”
10. sudo gedit /var/www/phpinfo.php>>works
copy phpinfo.php from somewhere else to /var/www/phpinfo.php>>failed
use mouse to create phpinfo2.php and index2.php and index.php (all three with content phpinfo()) >> works
only index.php with project code>> Failed
11. I keep getting”http error 500 (internal error)”
spent whole day fixing it:
sudo chmod -R 755 /var/www/
12. one more thing:
to debug your error: use both error from webpage and /var/log/apache2/error.log
